Happy 75th Birthday to Joe Torre, now a Hall of Fame manager, but to me a good hitter and smarter player who had a great eighteen-year playing career. I wish I had a chance to play with Joe, but he spent his entire career in the National League. The only time we were even on the same field was at the 1970 All-Star game in Cinncinnati. His stats were great, a career .297 hitter with 2,342 hits and 253 Home Runs. But his greatest success came as the Manager of the New York Yankees. I read that it took him 4,272 games (as a player and as a manager) before he ever made it to the World Series. Baseball is full of hugely talented men like Joe who played for weaker teams and never got to experience the post-season. I am so happy for him that he made it, and that he was so good at it.
